Privacy policy
Last updated: July 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Stoqi (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles your information. Stoqi is developed and maintained by Pieter Kanters. For privacy-related inquiries, please contact us via the contact form within the app or consult the website at www.stoqi.app.
1. What Stoqi does
Stoqi is a personal food and non-food inventory app that helps you track expiry dates, manage your stock, and maintain a shopping list.
By default, all product information stays exclusively on your device and is never uploaded to servers. Optionally, you can enable cloud sync to access your data across devices. This feature is entirely opt-in — the app works fully offline without it.
2. Data collected and why
2.1 Data stored locally on your device
The following data is stored exclusively on your device in a local database and is never transmitted to us:
- Product information you enter manually or via barcode scan (name, brand, barcode, expiry date, quantity, category, product image)
- Shopping list items
- App settings (language preference, dark mode, notification settings)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (for example, via the synchronization functionality or the sharing function in the shopping list).
2.2 Data you voluntarily provide via the contact form
When you submit a message through the in-app contact form, the following data is collected and transmitted to us:
- Your name
- Your email address
- The message you write
- Date and time of submission
This data is transmitted via EmailJS (emailjs.com), a third-party email delivery service. EmailJS may process this data on their servers in accordance with their own privacy policy: https://www.emailjs.com/legal/privacy-policy/
We use this data solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not use it for marketing purposes.
2.3 Barcode lookups
When you scan a product barcode, the barcode number is sent to the following third-party services to retrieve product information:
- Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org) — an open-source food database. Privacy policy: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy
- UPCItemDB (upcitemdb.com) — a product database. Privacy policy: https://www.upcitemdb.com/privacy
Only the barcode number is transmitted. No personal data is sent to these services. These lookups are optional — you can also add products manually.
2.4 Cloud sync
If you choose to enable cloud sync, the following data is stored on secure cloud servers via Supabase:
- Inventory data you have entered (product names, barcodes, expiry dates, quantities, categories, and associated images)
- Shopping list items
- App settings tied to your device
This data is stored on Supabase’s infrastructure hosted in the United Kingdom. The European Commission has recognized the United Kingdom as providing an adequate level of data protection equivalent to the EU (UK GDPR). For more information, see the Supabase Privacy Policy at supabase.com/privacy.
Cloud sync is fully optional. You can use Stoqi without enabling sync. If you disable sync and request deletion of your cloud data, all data associated with your device is permanently removed from our servers. Local device data is unaffected and must be removed separately by uninstalling the app.
2.5 Crash reporting
To improve the stability of the app, we automatically collect technical crash information when the app closes unexpectedly. This is done via Sentry (sentry.io), a third party.
The data includes, among other things, a stack trace, the device type, the Android version, and the app version. No personal data such as name, email address, or product details are transmitted. Crash reports are used exclusively for detecting and resolving technical errors.
3. Device permissions
Stoqi may request the following permissions:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Camera | Scanning product barcodes |
| Photo library / Media access | Adding a photo to a product from your gallery |
| Notifications | Sending local expiry date reminders |
All notifications are scheduled locally on your device. No notification data is sent to external servers.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties.
Data is only shared with:
- EmailJS — solely when you submit the contact form, as described in section 2.2
- Open Food Facts and UPCItemDB — solely when you perform a barcode scan, as described in section 2.3
- Sentry.io — only if the app has crashed on your device, as specified in section 2.5.
- Supabase (United Kingdom) — for cloud sync, only if you have enabled this feature
5. Data security
- Product data without cloud sync remains locally stored in SQLite databases with device-level protection.
- If you use cloud sync, your data is stored on Supabase servers in the United Kingdom using encrypted connections (TLS/HTTPS) and encryption at rest. Supabase maintains industry-standard security practices including access control and data isolation.
- Contact form data uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
6. Data retention and deletion
- Local app data persists until deletion or app uninstallation, which permanently removes all locally stored data.
- If you have enabled cloud sync, your data is retained on our servers for as long as sync remains active. You can request deletion of your cloud data at any time via the in-app contact form or by contacting the developer. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
- Contact form submissions are retained only as long as necessary for inquiry resolution, with deletion available upon request.
7. Children’s privacy
Stoqi is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Contact the developer if a child submits data via the contact form or has enabled cloud sync.
8. Your rights
Depending on your country of residence, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority
To exercise these rights, contact us via the contact form in the app or through www.stoqi.app.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
